چکیده
Abstract The Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) Directive was ratified (2014/89/EU) along the Strategy of European Union (EU) on Blue Economy to contribute effective management maritime activities and resources incorporate principal elements Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) (2002/413/EC) into planning at land-sea interface. There is a need develop ICZM approach throughout Europe realise potential for both socio-economic environmental targets set by EU national legislations. In this study, we co-developed different approaches interactions in four case areas Estonia Finland based defined characteristics key interests derived from local or regional challenges integrating spatial data human ecology. Furthermore, drafts were co-evaluated stakeholders public using online map-based assessment tools (public participatory GIS). Estonian cases ranged diversification land use enhancement community-based entrepreneurship. Finnish aimed define trends sustainable marine coastal tourism introduce ecosystem service concept planning. During project activities, found that increased communication exchange views values prevailing important entire process. Thereafter, plans applied MSP processes nationally, they support development Finland.

Increased freshwater discharge shifts the trophic balance in the coastal zone of the northern Baltic Sea
Increased precipitation is one projected outcome of climate change that may enhance the discharge of freshwater to the coastal zone. The resulting lower salinity, and associated discharge of both nutrients and dissolved organic carbon, may influence food web functioning. The scope of this study was to determine the net outcome of increased freshwater discharge on the balance between autoand het...
متن کاملSuccessful Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Program Model of a Developing Country (Xiamen, China) – Implementation in Bangladesh Perspective
This paper represents the overall current situation of two Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) programsone is as a successful model like Xiamen ICZM program in China and another is as a developing project like ICZM program in Bangladesh. The paper begins with an attempt to track the evolution of policies and their implementation on coastal zone management with particular reference from bo...
متن کاملImportance of coastal primary production in the northern Baltic Sea
In this study, we measured depth-dependent benthic microalgal primary production in a Bothnian Bay estuary to estimate the benthic contribution to total primary production. In addition, we compiled data on benthic microalgal primary production in the entire Baltic Sea. In the estuary, the benthic habitat contributed 17 % to the total annual primary production, and when upscaling our data to the...
متن کاملThe ICZM Balanced Scorecard: A tool for putting integrated coastal zone management into action
Coastal areas are characterised by the choice of performance measures and/or reference points which may be critical in the environmental management process, determining the success of an Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) plan. The tools for the strategic control of ICZM plans are particularly important, although they are still not widely used at the local level. The following paper prop...
متن کاملShortcomings in the European principles of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM): Assessing the implications for locally orientated coastal management using Biome Portfolio Analysis (BPA)
EU policy geared towards the sustainable development of European coastal areas has incorporated Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) as one of its primary mechanisms to achieve its goal. However, critical shortcomings in the ICZM paradigm have emerged. In particular, incoherence in the European Commission's ICZM principles with respect to local and strategic objectives remains an issue. Ad...
